OSSAA Solo & Ensemble Contest
March 2, 2024
Claremore High School
It is appropriate to DRESS NICELY for your performance (eg-dress clothes & no jeans) because the judge sees you and you make a first impression.
Be sure you have the original copy of your solo and/or ensemble music with the measures numbered for the judge. Also, be sure your name and your school name are on them. Unless you have made other arrangements, Mr. Wright will have your music and will give it to the judge in your room all at once.
We will bring the sound systems if you’re using recorded accompaniment, but bring your recordings just in case!
Hand the original music to the judge when you go into the room (if you’re bringing your own) and introduce yourself.
Make yourself comfortable (stand or sit, adjust music stand, etc) and perform your best.
Afterward, say “thank you for listening” and leave the room.
He/she will keep your music and continue writing comments on the judge’s sheet. We will collect your music after a while and get it back to you at school or at the end of the contest.
We will arrange a bus to get you there and home. Please bring something to do before/after you perform because we will stay until all of those who rode the bus are finished.
If you plan to drive/ride there on your own, plan on arriving about 30 minutes before your performance time to warm-up and get your ensemble members together to run through the music. It’s a 45-min drive and there are tolls if you go via hwy-FYI. You will also need time to familiarize yourself with the layout of the school and where your performance room is. CHS Address is…
201 E Stuart Roosa Claremore, OK 74017
You will all be responsible for bringing your own instruments & music/supplies. Mallet players, there will be instruments for you to use in the rooms. If you prefer to use the one you’ve been practicing on, be sure to work that out with Mr. Wright well in advance so we can arrange how to get it there. For the larger percussion ensembles, we will bring what we need that they don’t provide, but be sure to bring our sticks/mallets for EVERYTHING.
Parents can normally go into the rooms to watch/listen, but be sure you’re comfortable with that before you get there. Parents can normally hear pretty well through the closed door, though.
Bus Information
Meet at Charles Page HS Band Room at 11:45am with all of your things if you’re riding the bus.
We will depart by 12:00pm, so don’t be late!
The plan is to arrive at Claremore HS by 12:45pm
Our first performance is at 1:27pm and our last finishes by 5:15pm.
We should be home at CPHS by 6:00pm.
Be sure someone is here to pick you up if you don’t drive yourself to CPHS!

If you’re driving on your own, or you’re a CBMS player, don’t forget to take all of your things home with you on Friday!
Please note: There is always a chance that exact performance times will change after printing and before the contest, and those changes will be communicated to you asap, if they happen.
